Taco Del Mar

I knew that today was not going to be a sit down lunch hour. I had a meeting at another school during lunch and I really had to get something fast to eat. I was rummaging in my desk drawer and spotted an Entertainment coupon for Taco Del Mar. Yes, a burrito would be perfect! It's filling, easy to eat and fast. One problem though. I'm not really that into Mexican food. I know, I know, places like Taco Del Mar are not a complete representation of Mexican cuisine. But we're in Vancouver and there is not really a whole lot of choices for authentic Mexican. What we get is essentially Tex-Mex or Cal-Mex. Getting back to the story, I am not really into the whole generic Mexican thing hat we have up here. Sure, I do the occasional taco night at home and grab the occasional taco at the food fair. But just like the book, "He's not that into you", I just don't care too much about about this Americanized Mexican food.

Well, since I was in a rush, I was not about to be picky. So I head over to Taco Del Mar and got 2 burritos; one beef and one chicken. I have to say these burritos are absolutely humongous. I'm not sure if you could cram anymore rice, beans, meat, cheese and salsa into it. I opened up one to take a picture and was that ever a bad move. Let's just say eating it got really messy. Okay, I'll admit it. I actually enjoyed eating the burrito. I think it is partly due to the fact there was more than ample amount of ingredients within the tortilla. I also liked the fact it wasn't salty. Of course this isn't the most authentic way of eating Mexican food; but I enjoyed it for what it was. I guess getting 2 for the price of one didn't hurt either.

The Good:
- Portions are good
- Tastes pretty good (not over-spiced or over-salted)
- They have fish as meat option

The Bad:
- It's Americanized Mexican fast food (despite what the website tells you about being authentic)
- Little bit pricey for fast food

How the * ANYONE can have two TDM burritos is mind blowing for me. I can't even finish one, no matter how hungry I am / think I am. There have been times when I think I am starving, only to order a medium or large burrito, and stop short of two bites, because I would simply explode if I ate anymore.

La Casita in Gastown is a good place for authentic fare. Going in there is like going to one of my El Salvadorian friends' homes. *homey*. :)

LOL... No I didn't eat 2... That's physically impossible. I saved one for Viv... I don't want any nasty results of eating 2! :) Thanks for the tip, I'll try La Casita for sure!
