I respectfully declined. It's not because I'm still upset or anything. It's because there is no point in returning. If I did, of course the service would be excellent. So there would be no value to that blog post. The review of the terrible service is one thing but I have to say, of all the years of reading your blog, I've never seen food look so unappetizing (and I've been known to eat some questionable things).

I probably would have left after waiting so long for my food but I definitely would have left after seeing their food. Why does everything seem to be coated in orange oil? Why is there a pool of that same orange oil sitting at the bottom of the chicken wings. That looks disgusting.

I think the review was far kinder than what I would have written. I applaud your restraint.Sandra N.https://www.blogger.com/profile/18445410160653533287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-53322858074504173302012-05-14T00:49:05.114-07:002012-05-14T00:49:05.114-07:00When I saw the menu of a southern boil had bubble ...When I saw the menu of a southern boil had bubble tea and other Asian items, I already thought this place was going to be terrible. This is the kind of place that sees that sort of restaurant in a magazine, thinks "Hey, that's a great idea!" without actually knowing anything about that kind of food.

The service, the way they handled the bill, the way they skimp on the ingredients and generally the inclusion of bubble tea just tells me they saw an opening in the market, saw how successful places like this are in the States and thought it would make them some money. No thought went into the food...it was all spent on shaving those extra cents off the dollar.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17163618352093574645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-24209044222982609642012-05-13T18:45:29.499-07:002012-05-13T18:45:29.499-07:00Hello this is Milhouse. If you read Shrman’s blog,...Hello this is Milhouse. If you read Shrman’s blog, yes that Milhouse. Although I’ve been thinking Thrill-House might be better at getting the attention of a certain girl named Lisa S.... sigh. Anyway, in four plus years of eating with Sheman this is the first time I’ve felt the need to add my two cents to a matter because most of the time my two cents ain’t worth a plum nickel.

But since this post has caused a minor disturbance in the force, I’ll say this, Sherman was very generous in his post. From my perspective, he had every right to go all dark side on Crawfish King’s proverbial behind, but he didn’t.

I’ll just echo a few things from my perspective and words.

Mistakes happen. No service will be perfect, but it’s how issues are addressed that matters. I understand the staff was inexperienced, so I don’t fault them for that. But we inquired about our order not once, not twice, but three times, and each time we were told by our server there were some issues -- Boy, understatement of the year there -- but the order is coming. If the server really checked on our order, how did it all of sudden disappear not only from their computer system, but from the kitchen that’s supposed to be making it? Did the magic crawfish monster swoop down from the heavens and whisk our meal away, leaving no trace in its wake? I shake my fist at you magic crawfish monster. Eat my shorts... which I came pretty close to doing because no food for an hour and a half and not even a sorry to boot.

Then, after we complained, the server had the gall to come back and ask if we were sure he was the one who took our order. Give me a break. My eyes were stalking your confused existence like you were Lisa S. on valentines day from the moment we ordered. I was watching because I just finished playing softball, and was waiting for you to go get my darn water, which didn’t come until forever and a day.

So our food order goes poof into the ether and as we’re about to leave, the manager comes and says if we stay, he’ll make it up to us. If anything like this ever happens to me again I will not accept vague statements like this to be worth anything. I will demand concrete answer as to how things will be made right because what the manager did didn’t even come close.

Soft opening or not, I did not once feel like this simple but significant issue was being taken seriously by the restauraunt. After our meal, the manager didn’t come over to check if everything was to our satisfaction or tell us how he was going to make things right, which to me showed he really didn’t care. It felt like he was throwing us a bone and saying like it or not, this is all you get for the restauraunt messing up your order and wasting two hours of your time.

I didn’t expect groveling. I just wanted some professionalism, and a simple apology, which I didn’t get.

In many ways I feel like I was tricked with empty promises into patronizing an establishment I already didn't want to patronize. Because quite frankly, after waiting almost two hours for no food, I was ready to hit the McDonald's down the street for a filet-o-fish and forget about Crawfish King. In hindsight, I would have really liked to have given McDonald’s my business instead because at least they have a clue on how to treat a customer.

With that said, I’ll leave everyone with some words of wisdom learned the hard way.

“It’s better to walk in on both your parents than on just one of them.”Milhousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09511759836536003866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-48710928772253278302012-05-13T14:33:44.748-07:002012-05-13T14:33:44.748-07:00@Gordon Thank you for your comment. I was angry and I am still a bit peeved. No doubt about it. In terms of how much this is actually true, all of it. In fact, Milhouse stated I was too "easy" on them already. I believe that no matter who's running the restaurant, it's still a restaurant and it should not be judged on a lower standard just because it's a family restaurant. However, everything on this post seems to describe something that is directly attributed to what you were feeling (especially how you described the quality of food). I see a lot of anger, and from my experiences strong feelings sometimes shape how one views what is actually happening.
I have no doubt that something was screwed up, but I'm actually curious if it was actually wrong to this degree. It almost seem unbelievable that a restaurant can let this happen.Eric Wonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18201563834402827963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-12983694872125651262012-05-12T08:49:52.049-07:002012-05-12T08:49:52.049-07:00Drove past the other day and was curious. I think its also fair to mention that at the time of your visit, they are still on a soft opening stage having opened for about 2 weeks prior. I went there on their 2nd day of opening. It wasnt that busy at that time and service was decent. You were right about the oiliness in their boil. I guess they use a lot of butter in their spice mix, but I did enjoy our order of dungeness crab and shrimps. Not so much with the crawfish since I find it too little meat to eat for all the effort.

On the side note, in their Facebook page, I quote their May 4th post.

"We are holding open interviews from 12pm-2pm tomorrow afternoon. Looking for servers, cooks, bartenders and managers. Please come with a resume!"

I guess they became aware of the service issues and was doing a wholesale staff replacement.

BTW, this Richmond branch is not a franchise.
