Korean french-fry-dogs are on sticks. The reason I polluted Sherman's #1 blog, is so that someone will pick up the idea and starts a TaipeiDog or a KoDog. :pEatnbeMerrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-57568598102833403432010-02-25T11:19:29.872-08:002010-02-25T11:19:29.872-08:00I just love the name Sherman. Not sure if it will be that impressive if you take into account you're paying $7 for a hot dog.

Yah, I think it might've been a stretch to group Taiwanese sausages and Chee Fan into the same category as hot dogs. Both are not hot dogs in the North American sense, but I guess they're portable food.Sherman Chanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07658949865479421864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-90631559283219915602010-02-25T10:15:44.411-08:002010-02-25T10:15:44.411-08:00is Dougie Dog worth the try? When I was in San Fran and NYC, they're more into the classic hot dog. Up here, it's all about the Asian influences. I've heard that the Indian dog is so-so with something lost in translation. I still need to try that out. Aree's Dog House on Broadway serves up the more classic hot dog, but as it is in Vancouver, they are never as good as in the US.

As for the Taipei hot dogs, I haven't tried one yet and probably it'll be a good idea. Thanks for the tip!

In terms of the pork floss, I buy it all the time, and incidentally at Costco and TNT. I am a big fan of "chee fan" which is the handrolled rice roll with salty donut, pork floss and pickled mustard greens as you speak of. However, unless it were strictly for takeout purposes, the best places to get chee fan is Spicy Court or Shanghai River. I find the ones at TNT to be a bit dry and the salty donut to be not crispy.Sherman Chanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07658949865479421864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-38178926433387728182010-02-24T15:37:29.270-08:002010-02-24T15:37:29.270-08:00Taste being personal applies to hotdogs as well. I much prefer the classic American hotdogs than Japadog's fishy nori, messy terimayo and garlicky kimchi.

Taiwanese love their Taipei hotdogs available at TNT supermarkets. These are served w/ or w/o buns:
http://yeinjee.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/travel-taiwan-023.jpg
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ZQSCAvNO3uw/SmxiacCJY2I/AAAAAAAAAUM/AKdAL1kZznQ/s320/DSCF3610_resize.JPG

At home we add fresh or lightly picked cucumber, carrots and turnip (stir-fried until most water is drained off).

Costco sells Taiwanese pork floss @$10 a big tub 454g. It adds nice flavor to buns, bread and rice.
http://www.diytrade.com/china/4/products/4344100/Dried_Pork_Floss.html#normal_img

Did you notice the long lineups @TNT cooked food section and other Asian food courts that sell pork floss and/or hotdogs rolled in bread and/or sticky rice. These rolls are then cut into 'sushi' bite size.EatnbeMerrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-72791195816976513802010-02-24T09:51:34.494-08:002010-02-24T09:51:34.494-08:00No root beer... too much sugar! No root beer... too much sugar!Sherman Chanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07658949865479421864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-33788489936139255602010-02-24T09:43:44.993-08:002010-02-24T09:43:44.993-08:00You pretty much summed it.
