I visit Vanc every couple of months, so next trip I'll make a point to stop at Fujiya.Aftoyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16554427545006222901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-58778406203345578832011-03-26T13:00:32.500-07:002011-03-26T13:00:32.500-07:00Hey Aftoy, I actually like Fujiya in it's own ...Hey Aftoy, I actually like Fujiya in it's own ways. It is what it is. Now for the refrigerated displays, I find it hard to believe it is warm. You see, that would be in complete violation of the Vancouver Coastal Health codes where raw food needs to be kept below 4 degrees Celsius at all times. So yes, it is refrigerated sushi or there is some health code violation. Now if you referring to the cooked food, I wasn't necessarily talking about that. With that being said, that would be in violation as well since it cannot sit there without being refrigerated at 4 degrees Celsius or kept heated at 60 degrees Celsius.Sherman Chanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07658949865479421864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-61825760314494633152011-03-26T12:15:06.737-07:002011-03-26T12:15:06.737-07:00I'm a fan of Fujiya and note your comment abou...I'm a fan of Fujiya and note your comment about refridgerated Sushi. You didn't notice that the bottom of the trays from the display cooler are warm? They look to be in a cooler but that's deceiving.Aftoyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16554427545006222901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-7169096734256928042010-10-12T11:02:40.807-07:002010-10-12T11:02:40.807-07:00Fair review. I've never liked the pre-made foods at Fujiya (Venables store). I have bought their raw fish and seafood in the past when I had sushi parties at home.

If I may make a suggestion, if you happen to compare pre-made (or made-to-order) sushi at a Japanese seafood/deli store, try Sakanaya Seafood on S. Granville in Marpole, a few doors north of the Safeway. Very fresh seafood and the sushi can be made-to-order and eaten on the premises:

http://maps.google.ca/maps?num=10&hl=en&client=firefox-a&q=characters+bookstore+granville&ie=UTF8&hq=characters+bookstore&hnear=Granville&ll=49.210188,-123.140544&spn=0.771549,2.721863&t=h&z=9&layer=c&cbll=49.210188,-123.140544&panoid=E019D6gxvm6uP2RwPXy1lQ&cbp=12,221.87,,0,4.18LotusRapperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04996696895446779820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-50706529230903511202010-10-11T01:25:00.041-07:002010-10-11T01:25:00.041-07:00Izumiya is a tiny Japanese market tucked away in R...Izumiya is a tiny Japanese market tucked away in Richmond. They've also got a great selection of ready-to-eat food. Their onigiri is probably some of the best I've ever had.

When I went to school in Richmond, I would be able to buy a nice lunch for about $6. Math is not my forte.

Sherman, I recently tried Ajisai and ordered a few of the same dishes that you had, It was delicious. My niece still raves about the incredible taste of their sushi. But I think it's a pricier option and I'm not sure I want sushi because I don't think it travels well.

Thanks for all your input though.hollynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-81428741925805005152010-10-10T17:07:43.893-07:002010-10-10T17:07:43.893-07:00Holly, I actually think Fujiya is one of the bette...Holly, I actually think Fujiya is one of the better "premade" sushi places. Otherwise, you can always just pop by any decent sushi place and just get take out. Since you're going to the Airport, you can stop by Ajisai or Applause. Isn't it only a 6 hour flight to Hawaii? I guess you're taking a connecting flight out of Seattle?

Kim, exactly my sentiments. Not my first choice, but given what it is, it is better than other options.Sherman Chanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07658949865479421864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1524766856706642380.post-92136739582119472742010-10-10T06:44:19.857-07:002010-10-10T06:44:19.857-07:00For the price, Fujiya is not bad; however, dependi...For the price, Fujiya is not bad; however, depending on which one, you might have more interesting options. In the case of the Venables location, well, it is located in the middle of nowhere, unless you go to Victoria Drive some blocks away.

I used to go the Richmond location (gasp!) and arrive before lunchtime. That way, most stuff would be "fresher" (of course, even then, it would have been there for a while).
